Fly High Aviation Media is proud to present our coverage from the NAS Patuxent River Air Show 2026, which took place at Naval Air Station Patuxent River Base, Maryland on 19th to 21st June 2026. As the U.S. Navy’s premier research, development, test, and evaluation center, Pax River once again demonstrated the innovation, heritage, and operational excellence that define naval aviation.
Established in 1943, NAS Patuxent River was created from wartime necessity, an urgent requirement for a consolidated site where flight testing, research, and development could be conducted away from congested coastal airspace. Over the decades, Pax River became the epicenter of naval aviation advancement. Many of the Navy’s most iconic aircraft have undergone critical testing here, including the F4U Corsair, F 14 Tomcat, A 6 Intruder, S 3 Viking, F/A 18 Hornet and Super Hornet, EA 6B Prowler, E 2 Hawkeye, and the modern F 35B/C Lightning II. Rotary wing platforms such as the H 60 Seahawk series, CH 53 variants, and numerous unmanned systems have also been shaped by the work carried out at Pax River. Every major leap in carrier aviation, from catapult technology to advanced landing systems, has roots on this historic base.
This year’s event carried a quiet sense of reflection, acknowledging the generations of test pilots, engineers, and aircrew whose work at Patuxent River has shaped the aircraft and capabilities seen across today’s fleet. Their dedication, often carried out far from public view, remains the foundation of the technology and precision demonstrated throughout the weekend.
The flying displays were exceptional. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels delivered their trademark power and precision, captivating thousands with tight formations and high energy maneuvers. Adding an international dimension, the French Air & Space Force Patrouille de France graced the skies with elegant, synchronized aerobatics, offering a rare and welcome European presence at a U.S. military air show. Together, these two world class teams created a memorable celebration of skill, discipline, and partnership.
As we look to the future, NAS Patuxent River continues to serve as a bridge between heritage and innovation. The same spirit that guided the testing of the Navy’s earliest jets now drives the development of next generation platforms, autonomous systems, and advanced flight technologies. This air show not only celebrates the past, it highlights the ongoing mission of Pax River to shape the aircraft, systems, and aviators who will define the Navy’s future.
Fly High Aviation Media extends our sincere thanks to NAS Patuxent River Public Affairs, the organizers, volunteers, and military personnel whose professionalism ensured seamless access and coordination across both days.
